A safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda - October 2007
For the first time in fourteen years of visits to Uganda, Jim went on a safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda's largest and most visited park.
The park is located in the southwest of the country and covers over 2000 square miles. Everything here is vast and magnificent.
The great expanse of the park consists of a savannah plain between Rwenzori mountains on the west and the hill country to the east. Two lakes are in the park, Lake Edward to the south and Lake George to the north. These lakes are joined by the Kazinga Channel, a natural channel.
The Park is home to over 100 mammals and over six hundred species of birds.
The Mweya Safari Lodge was our base for exploring the Park. In the very early mornings, we ventured out with a driver/guide to explore the Park and its animals. In the afternoon, we took a boat cruise on the waters around the lodge.
QENP is indeed a treasure in this country which Churchill called "The pearl of Africa".
